Dell Laptop Overheating Fix (Official Dell Tech Support)
- PC Vents
- Update Drivers
- Change Power Settings
- Use Power Manager App
There can be any number of reasons why your PC is having overheating issues. Here are 4 quick and easy things you can do to help alleviate a computer that's running hot.
PC Vents
- If you think it's fan related, keep the vents cleaned and always use your laptop on a hard flat surface.
- To properly clean the vents, turn off the computer and disconnect all the external devices. Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery if possible.
- Using a can of compressed air, blow out any dust; be sure to hold the can at a 90* angle at about 6 to 8 inches away from the vents. Afterwards, reinsert the battery and plug the AC adapter back in.
- Hard flat surfaces are best to allow for proper airflow. Reconnect the external devices, restart the computer and see if this helped.
Update Drivers
- Updating system drivers can also help reduce overheating; do this with dell SupportAssist. Windows Search for SupportAssist and open it. Navigate to Get Drivers and Downloads. And click on Run Now.
- SupportAssist will automatically show all the available updates for your PC. Click on Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
Change Power Settings
- Try changing the system's power setting to balanced.
- Right click the battery icon on the taskbar. Select power options.
- Now just choose the "Balanced (recommended)" power plan and close the window. Another thing to try is to go into the Dell Power Manager app.
Use Power Manager App
- Launch the Microsoft Store, and look for the Dell Power Manager app.
- Click 0n the Get button to install the app.
- Then select Launch and select the Thermal Management option. Choose the "Cool" setting for a cooler system surface temperature.
